We are proud to announce that three of the artists we work with will be participating in upcoming international exhibitions and Biennials:
Song Kun will be travelling to Los Angeles in May where her work will be exhibited in the HammerMuseum, UCLA as part of their special Hammer Projects. The exhibition will run from June 2nd ¡ªSeptember 16th and will feature a selection of over 200 works from her ¡®It¡¯s My Life¡¯ series, a compendium of her life over a period of one year. These 366 canvases were originally exhibited last year at UniversalStudios-Beijing (Oct 21 ¨C Nov 19) where Hammer Curator James Elaine saw them and was immediately struck by the artist¡¯s style, simplicity and talent.
One of the few Chinese artists to participate in this year¡¯s Lyon Biennial (Sep 16¡ªJan 6 2008), Beijing-based artist Liu Wei willbe exhibiting a new installation work which has been specially commissioned for the event. Curated by Thierry Raspail, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Stephanie Moisdon the Biennial will feature over 100 international artists and creators. Liu Wei¡¯s solo exhibition ¡®The Outcast¡¯ will run in UniversalStudios from May 20th ¨CJune 20th. Featuring two new installation works as well as previously unseen canvases from his ¡®Purple Air¡¯ series, the exhibition is a fantastic opportunity to witness the next stage in this emerging artist¡¯s career.
Kan Xuan has also been selected for the 2007 Venice Biennial(10June - 21 November 2007); her video installation will be presented in the Chinese Pavilion alongside fellow female artists Shen Yuan, Cao Fei and Yin Xiuzhen. Their site specific works will be displayed in the building and the VerginiGardens.
UniversalStudios-Beijing co-director and founder Pi Li, is one of the ten key curators behind Phaidon¡¯s new book: Ice Cream: Contemporary Art in Culture, described as ¡®a global survey of some of the most significant emerging artists working today¡¯, this exhibition-in-a-book acts as an expert guide to the trends of tomorrow. UniversalStudios artist Chen Shaoxiong was also included in the book as one of the artists whom the curators felt best represented the ¡®cream¡¯ of current contemporary art.
